Value engineering and simplified construction for urban regeneration
The Leyland Town Deal is a significant government and council-funded initiative aimed at regenerating Leyland's town centre. Key components of the scheme include the construction of a new 'BASE2' building, envisioned as a business hub for skills, events, and workspaces; the refurbishment of the existing Market Hall; and a new commercial and residential development. The contractor leading the project sought expert engineering input to identify value engineering opportunities and simplify the build methodology of the proposed redevelopment.
Solution and Impact
KODA was introduced to the Leyland Town Deal project by the Contractor to onboard our specific expertise and skills in value engineering and constructability. Our role commenced from Stage 3 (tender) and will continue through the construction phase on site, providing comprehensive Civil and Structural (C&S) services.
Our team undertook a thorough review of the existing designs, actively seeking opportunities to optimise structural forms, rationalise material usage, and simplify construction sequencing without compromising quality or diverting significantly from the original architectural vision. This involved close collaboration with the contractor to understand their preferred methods and logistical constraints, ensuring our proposed solutions were both innovative and highly practical.
